Ownby Analytical, LLC provides expert scientific analysis of archaeological artifacts. We provide only the most relevant data in a cost-effective manner that emphasizes each project’s individual needs. Results are provided in reports with information related to the archaeological context and are easy to incorporate with other data types. All work is conducted by Dr. Mary Ownby, director and principal analyst.
Our primary method is petrographic analysis, to provide important information on raw materials, paste recipes, technological choices, and production areas. We also utilize chemical data acquired by neutron activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. We can perform scanning electron microscopy or electron microprobe analyses as a primary or secondary technique.
Ownby Analytical, LLC’s experience is based on research projects conducted around the world including Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, South Carolina, Egypt, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Columbia, and Panama. These diverse experiences included the analysis of pottery, plaster and mortar, small clay and stone objects, bricks, and sediments.
