Dr. Mary F. Ownby

Dr. Mary Ownby

Our director and principal analyst, Dr. Mary Ownby has over 15 years’ experience in the study of archaeological materials, principally ceramic petrography. Dr. Ownby has also worked with chemical data acquired by NAA, XRF, and LA-ICP-MS. She has knowledge of multiple statistical protocols for analyzing such data. Further, Dr. Ownby can perform scanning electron microscopy and electron microprobe analyses.

Dr. Ownby has worked throughout the US Southwest and Near East on a diversity of archaeological materials. She has written numerous reports and has over 50 publications, many peer-reviewed.

Dr. Ownby has a PhD from Cambridge University, UK in Archaeology, a MSc in Archaeological Analysis of Artifacts from University College London, a MA in Egyptian Archaeology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. She was previously employed as the Research Petrographer at Desert Archaeology, Inc. for 13 years under which many projects were conducted.
